Harbingers
present their new three man sketch comedy that explodes the myth that chums actually like each other.
“A real hoot” Paul Foot (FAQ U, Channel 4)
Sweet ECA, Studio 1, Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2008
The show itself is an unusually bittersweet affair. Witty retorts and scathing barbs help unravel the harbingers relationships, whilst unexpected twists in unlikely settings only serve to hammer nails into the coffin that is their friendship. The dark sides of pine furniture retail, marine biology, and chamber orchestras all manage to play their part in the breakdown of these three pals. present their new three man sketch comedy

Chasm History
The chasm performed at the fringe last year. Previous to this they put on a show in stage two venue of Northumbria University, which was such a success they were featured in Northumbria University's alumni.
This led to being invited to perform at Newcastle's Northern Stage in October 2007 and April 2008, both with highly positive audience feedback
In between they have worked on individual projects where they received reviews from
Long Live Comedy and B &B comedy group:
"Comedy gold or worrying psychological problem" -Sarah (Long Live Comedy)
"Danny Jackson is another of the comedy flowers of Newcastle that is really starting to flourish, with a well worked theatrical set of off-key stories"(Long Live Comedy)
"Steven Speak is a fantastic physical performer with an elastic face"
(B & B comedy group.)
Who we Are
Danny Jackson (Writer, actor, editor, and director) is the founder of the group and
Graduated from Northumbria University in 2007 with a 2.1 in Drama. Whilst studying, he set
up the Northumbria comedy society and took the role of President. He also regularly performs
stand up at the award winning 'Long Live Comedy night' at the Dog and Parrot in Newcastle
and recently performed in 'So You Think You're Funny', where he impressed both the
compare and the judges. He has also recently wrote, edited and produced a pilot radio show
called 'Pandora's excessive Paradise' (copies of this can be sent if requested). Previous to
this he has independently written and produced a 3 part comedy radio series for Fenham FM
which I plan to expand in the near future due to a largely positively response.
Sarah Speak (actor, editor, communications, director) also graduated from Northumbria
University in 2007 where she studied Drama. This is where she met and became working
partners with Danny. Sarah was pivotal in organising and liaising with the Newcastle
University Theatre Society for last March's show at Northumbria University. As well as being
in the group she is quickly finding herself as a stand up comedian and regularly performs at
the award winning 'Long Live Comedy night' at the Dog and Parrot in Newcastle and has
recently entered' So You Think You're Funny' in Leeds.
Steven Speak (actor, writer) graduated from Manchester Metropolitan in 2007 where he
got a BA (Hons) in contemporary theatre and performance. He has worked alongside Nancy
Reilly- Mcvitte, from the 'Wooster group' and has also appeared in Miss Julie, Blood Wedding,
The Hours, Jack and the Beanstalk and the TV show, Waterloo road. He is currently touring
with 'Saltmine' theatre company and 'black and blue' comedy sketch group. He is a
professional street dancer and also has skills in free- running and stage combat.
What we have done
We performed at the Fringe festival last year. Previous to this we put on a show in stage two venue of Northumbria University. We were able to use this event to try out material and promote our show for the fringe. As a result we featured in our Northumbria University alumni.
We performed at Newcastle's Northern Stage in April 2008 after a successful performance, back in October. This was a chance for us to promote our show for this year's festival.
Our show looks at themes of adolescence, adulthood and the widening chasm between... With humour

Examples of four of our sketches can be seen on our website: http://www.myspace.com/whispieschasm
Future
Whispies Chasm will begin a small UK tour late 2008, with hopes of eventually becoming a televised sketch show.

The Show:
'riveting,' 'a crowd-pleaser. The audience was completely engaged by the performance'
'filling a free venue with people and laughter,' 'These desparados should be saluted.'
The Fringe is awash with stand-up and it is difficult to choose between all the up-and-comers vying for your attention. Every now and then though, you wander into a little bar, well off the beaten track and discover gold dust. These two comedians on the same bill - ostensibly representing "Good" and "Evil" -deliver a set that is edgey, punchy, raunchy and above all very, very funny. The capacity audience went wild as Jokes exploded like demented grenades at a children's party. Laura Rugg - "Good" - makes Janey Godley seem like the Mother Teresa of the title, spitting venom like a cobra in a panda-suit. Stephen Hill - "Evil" - would have Hitler, Mugabe and Radavan Karadzic all scuttling for cover like innocent schoolgirls as his withering invective takes no prisoners. Catch these while they're free on their [almost certain]ascent to the top: don't go if you can't take ritual humiliation; do go if you like your comedy to push at, and over, the limits.
@ The Voodoo Bar, venue 62. 7.00pm. Free.
"These two out there comedians have talent and will no doubt go along way in their comedy and acting careers..we are sure to see much more of them...these guys are definately heading for stardom.."

Acclaimed comedy troupe THE DOG-EARED COLLECTIVE return to the fringe to unleash their latest sketch comedy smack down BAD DOG VARIETY.
The company’s gleefully anarchic style, already likened to ‘The Mighty Boosh’ (Camden New Journal), earned them critical success at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe:
The Dog-Eared Collective leaves no pun unspoken, no sigh gag unseen, no entendre left singular in its take no prisoners campaign for laughs...
more laughs than any other fringe shows put together..

BAD DOG VARIETY is a riotous sketch show where live stunts, comedy and cabaret collide. Join Babs Malloy's Yorkshire & European All-Stars including Signor Love Shark and his puppet Pinky, mystic mind-nester Snaaake and Fantasy Jackson's Sex Gremlin Dungeon Party.

Edinburgh Fringe Special Now On!!

Cosmo is the guitar-pickin' son of a lapsed Hungarian baron and a disinherited Scottish noblewoman allegedly descended from William the Conqueror.
It's a theme that runs through many of his songs. Soulfully strumming the guitar while others tend to wish he'd just shut up, he also sings of dreary Sundays, bedsit philosophy, lost love on trains and small town acid trips. It's probably best not to mention his attempts to human beatbox and rap, though. So far, he's knocked out three CDs worth of the stuff and unfortunately for you there are more in the pipeline!! He used to be the singer in one of the greatest 20th century confrontational political punk-funk-pop bands called Flannel ever. And he used to rap in local Cardiff headcases Pondlife MCs. More recently, he has shared stages with Pete Doherty, Frank Turner, Chris TT, Altern-8 and Eat Static - and just about got away with it. He's also appeared at venues, protests and festivals all over the UK, (including Glastonbury and the Big Green Gathering), toured Ireland, Europe and South America, and appeared on various media outlets, (legal and otherwise), all over the shop. These days he also regularly updates the poltico-musico blog www.freedomfortooting.blogspot.comCosmo has also been known to stand up for many unfashionable political causes. This site, however, is dedicated to the most unfashionable cause of all, the one that is nonetheless dearest to his heart: himself. A thirst for social justice and equality has been with him from an early age, encapsulated in the phrase: "If I can't live in a castle, no-one's living in a f*cking castle."Check out more at

Forget Nancy, Joseph and Oliver, who wants to be Judy? A brand new musical about Judy Garland comes to the Edinburgh Fringe.
Seven characters, a grumpy stage-manager and a chorus of Lovely Legs battle it out as they audition, rehearse and then struggle towards the opening night of this ‘show-within-a-show’. The magic, fame and tragedy of Judy Garland’s life emerge through the trials, loves and issues in the cast. This is a piece that takes an ironic look at our fascination with the genre of Musical Theatre, and features the life of a woman who has long been a beloved star for American and British audiences.
Including powerful emotional moments, big production numbers and original songs such as ‘Uppers and Downers’, the show also features Judy’s famous show-stopping song, ‘The Man That Got Away’. ‘Judy – The Musical’ has been created by the K6 Collective’s writer/director Anna Lawrence, and with original music by Roger Ward, a pro-music supervisor in the West End for Mackintosh/Webber for 25 years.
The K6 Collective is a company that aims to offer talented actors the opportunity to perform new writing and established work to a high standard whilst they are still training at Drama school or in Higher Education. This year’s cast comprises many talented young actors and dancers, some of whom are training at Rose Bruford, East 15, and LAMDA. The show also features Sam Miller (13), who reached the final 50 out of 5000 in the auditions for the BBC’s ‘I’ll do Anything’ this year. Sam said:
"I'm really excited to be part of The Edinburgh Fringe this year and it's great to be a young performer working with so many talented drama students on a fresh and lively new show".

U.K PREMIERE
Gilded Balloon (Sportsman), 4.15pm
This autobiographical comedy finds a West Coast LA shopaholic trapped in a quick marriage of convenience to an East London slacker / stoner / loser aboard a “floating rabbit hutch” of a houseboat in Chelsea’s Houseboat Moorings – not quite the fairytale wedding of her dreams. Soon the marriage, and its complimentary living quarters, doesn’t appear quite as convenient as it seemed.
A smash hit in L.A’s Court Theatre, this comedy ran for six months before being invited to show case at HBO’s prestigious Workspace.
Award winning writer / performer Erin Donovan has appeared in the Emmy Award
winning A Very British Coup and opposite Emma Thompson in Fortunes of War.
She has also written for TV and film, including Dreamworks’ The Spirit Bear, scheduled for release in 2009, and Shakespeare Unplugged, also currently in production.

Theatre Ines Wurth presents:
BULLY
Written and performed by Richard Fry
WORLD PREMIERE
Davey’s nightmare was finally over… Then he met the man of his dreams.
Gilded Balloon (Turret Room), 12 noon
Verse drama Bully is a gripping tour-de-verse about one man’s struggle against a life of violence and oppression. Leaving his unhappy childhood home for the first time, a young man meets the man of his dreams, but a joyous relationship descends into a spiral of abuse with catastrophic consequences. Dealing with dark subject matters ranging from homophobia and domestic violence to death and Su Pollard, Richard Fry never lets the ball drop. His punchy hilarious, tragic script steams on at an alarming rate. Film and TV actor Richard Fry came to acting at thirty after a string of jobs as a bin man, market trader and wood cutter. He wrote Bully drawing on his own experiences of bullies and bigots, fairies and fag hags, big bad boyfriends and youth club slags. His writing is influenced by song writers such as Kirsty Maccoll, Billy Bragg, and Terry Hall.
Richard can be seen later this year as DI Bill Neary in the thriller Telling Lies opposite Mel B and Jason Flemyng.

TIED UP IN KNOTTS!
Written and performed by Karen Knotts
Directed by Jodi Miller
WORLD PREMIERE Gilded Balloon (Wee Room), 3pm Daughter of one of the great icons of American comedy, Don Knotts, Karen Knotts has been at the centre of the American comedy scene on stage, radio and TV for twenty years with her characteristic blend of magic, stand up and improvisation. Here, Karen talks candidly about growing up in the shadow of her famous father, before finally striking out on a comedy career – initially with her father on the road and then alone, as the hugely popular actress and stage performer she has become today. Watching a man struggle endlessly with the highs and lows of fame, exultant with success, living in fear of the constant threat of anonymity, the stress of Karen’s childhood took its toll on her mentally, suffering a breakdown which committed to the Cedars Sinai psychiatric hospital.
Comedy legend Don Knotts won five Emmy Awards and received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2000. He is best known for playing Barney Fife in The Andy Griffith Show (249 episodes between 1960 – 86) and Mr. Furley in Three’s Company (172 episodes,1977 – 1984, ABC). He became one of the most beloved and admired comedy performers of his generation.

Fledgling presents:
THE BRITISH AMBASSADOR’S BELLY DANCER
This extraordinary true story of how the UK Ambassador to Uzbekistan fell for a local belly dancer has caught the imagination of the international media, with some of the biggest newspapers and channels from the USA, Russia, Turkey, Italy and Germany investigating how Nadira Murray rose from a life of poverty and abuse to perform her story in London’s stage. Following a sell out run at Arcola Theatre, one of the most talked about shows in London now moves to the Arts to continue its success.
In 2004 Craig Murray, then British Ambassador for Uzbekistan, made two life changing decisions: he spoke out against the U.K Government using intelligence gained under torture by states such as Uzbekistan and he left his wife and children for a belly dancer he’d met in a nightclub in Tashkent. The first led to Murray being suspended from service and lauded as a hero by many for his continued fight against human rights abuses and in particular Western moral hypocrisy. The second was used to undermine his credibility by his detractors in the media.
This is the true story of the life of Craig’s mistress Nadira, dismissed in the British press as a dumb bimbo, she fought tooth and nail to survive in a undemocratic, misogynist regime that practices systematic torture on its citizens. Raped twice, and scraping a living by working as a teacher, drugs runner and belly dancer, Nadira has now completed a foundation course in acting at Rose Bruford and graduated last summer from the Drama Studio. With the help of partner Craig she wishes to tell of her own journey from the slums to the Ambassadorial palace of Uzbekistan and finally a rented flat in Shepherd’s Bush. This production precedes Michael Winterbottom’s film based on Craig Murray’s experience, which is due for productionlater this year.
Written by Craig Murray, Nadira Murray and Alan Hescott, performed by Nadira
Murray with the voice of Craig Murray, directed by Thomas Hescott.

Fast & Furious FAST & FURIOUS OR SOFT & SLOW
Or Soft & Slow
WHAT’S HITTING THE RIGHT SPOT FOR WOMEN THIS YEAR,
SEX OR HOME IMPROVEMENTS?
Pink Space Theatre Company in association with Real Woman Ltd and Free @ Last TV bring their new show, Fast & Furious Or Soft & Slow written and directed by Hannah Phillips, ‘One of the Country’s most foremost female directors’ (Theatre Venture, London) to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, following performances in Birmingham and London. Fast & Furious Or Soft & Slow will be performed Monday 18th August – Saturday 23rd August 2008 at 18:45 at Roxy One at the Demarco Roxy Art House, 2 Roxburgh Place. Real sexual fantasies from a diversity of real women have been collected from a website over the past 12 months along with female forums and interesting interviews! The results have been developed into a comic, theatrical exploration using monologue, role - play, physical theatre, music and song! An explicit original theme tune has been composed by Nik Haley using the language of women’s fantasies as well as using some more familiar tunes, sang by the outstanding voices of the Pink Space Ladies, a cross between the Three Degrees and 4 Puffs and a Piano! We decided to create this piece due to a lack of current dialogue about female sexual fantasies by women or between women. Women seemed reluctant at first to share their fantasies. We were wondering if the sexual revolution had been put to bed for more ‘important’ business or was it just that women weren’t being asked?
